An exceptional location and a place steeped in history - these were the ingredients that immediately appealed to Jean-Luc Mathias and Marianne Borthayre, designers of the èhôtels-Collection hotel group and the Ermitage Hôtel, which was launched in 2007.
Perched on the heights of Lyon. This hotel-restaurant with its panoramic views is inspired by the theme of time:
"A place where we take the time to reflect, to escape the Stakhanovism of speed".
Until the middle of the 20th century, a succession of anchorites lived on Mont Cindre and shaped the site's history. A place of pilgrimage that became a place of contemplation, it later became home to cafés and restaurants for local residents and visitors who came to enjoy this exceptional viewpoint. Protean, the panoramic landscape changes with the passing days and seasons.
14th century - Brother Jean-Henri, probably the 1st hermit on Mont Cindre, had the chapel built.
Late 19th century - Other hermits succeeded him on this site, which became a place of contemplative retreat
Early 20th century - Birth of the imaginary garden, a naive work of art created spontaneously by Emile Damidot, the last hermit to live here
1930s - The site becomes a popular place for Sunday strolls, with dance halls and restaurants opening on the site
2007 - Opening of the Ermitage Hôtel**** and the Cuisine-à-manger
An almost monastic sobriety was needed on this site, which was inhabited for several centuries by a hermit until the middle of the 20th century.
The decor was designed and created by Jean-Luc MATHIAS and Marianne BORTHAYRE, the designers of the place. For them, the love of objects that tell a story is a driving force and bargain hunting a permanent activity:
"A few pieces of antique furniture and objects coexist naturally with re-editions of cult 20th century furniture and objects", they sum up the spirit of the place.
